You didn't have to travel to Stonehenge for a proper summer solstice celebration, you just had to come to the shores of Lake Merritt on  Saturday, June 24th for the First Annual Summer Solstice Revels. It was a free picnic event  held on the Boathouse lawn across from our winter home at the Scottish Rite Center on Lake Merritt.

Summer Revelers learned to dance the Helston Furry Dance, watched as the Revels Teens perform “Summer is a Cumin’ In”, and enjoy the traditional summer songs from the Solstice Singers.

Shay Black was the Master of the Revels for the afternoon and he was by accompanied Mariel Vandersteel, the Deer Creek Morris Men, members of the Revels Chorus and many others!

The festivities started with a grand procession featuring all of the above performers plus many other participants. Children and adults a like joined in the parade as we celebrate the longest day of the year.

A great time was had by all.
