Revels' Annual Autumn Showcase

October 31 at 2:00 pm

At Berkeley's Julia Morgan Center for the Arts

Featuring Kevin Carr

Come usher in the holiday season with bagpipes and Scottish flair at an All Hallows Eve autumn showcase, a prelude to the season that culminates with The Christmas Revels, a tradition in the Bay Area for the past 19 years. California Revels blend music, dance and ritual to create a celebratory and unique form of music theater. This year's Holiday Revels draw on the traditions of 18th century Scotland. And for the autumn showcase? Expect Scottish dancing there, too, with fiddlers, Morris dancers and a rousing bagpipe or two.

Kevin Carr is a musical triple-threat, renowned in the U.S. and Canada as a dance fiddler, a pennywhistler, Irish piper par excellence and featured performer in the 2004 Christmas Revels. He is best known for his work with the contradance and concert band The Hillbillies From Mars. He also teaches extensively at music camps and workshops across the country.  Kevin's powerful fiddling forms the backbone of the Hillbillies' French Canadian and Irish repertoire. In addition, he adds musical texture through his virtuosity on the Irish bagpipes and diatonic accordion. Kevin is also an accomplished storyteller, and delights audiences young and old with tales from Celtic and Appalachian sources.
